Pastor Curtis L. Johnson, Jr.
Curtis L. Johnson, Jr. is the son of Curtis Johnson, Sr. and the late Brenda Johnson. He serves as the current pastor of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Sandusky, Ohio. Pastor Johnson is married to the love of his life Fainisha (Howe) Johnson, and they are the proud parents of 3 children – Carlouse, Kya, and Aubrey.
Pastor Johnson accepted Christ at an early age and united with the New Jerusalem body. Under the leadership of Pastor Eddy N. Henry, Curtis was very active in the local assembly, where he served in several capacities. Upon graduating from high school, Curtis attended Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio. While in Toledo, Curtis worshipped at The Body of Christ Fellowship. There, Sister Peggy H. Moore inspired and challenged him to receive as much of God as he desired.
After trying to avoid the call into gospel ministry for over a decade, Curtis publicly accepted the call in August 2003 and preaching his initial sermon on December 28th of the same year. Desiring more formal training, he attended the Mt. Zion School of Ministry in Grantville, Pennsylvania, for nearly two years. Additionally, he attended Temple Theological Center, where he received a diploma in Biblical Studies and Ashland Theological Seminary, where he earned a certificate in Black Church Studies.
In 2005, Pastor Johnson returned home and was assigned to help his father in the ministry, Pastor Henry; he did so until Pastor Henry’s retirement in May 2009. Under the leading of the Holy Spirit, New Jerusalem called Pastor Johnson to serve as its third pastor. He officially took the pulpit November 8, 2009, and continues to serve there faithfully.
Pastor Johnson also actively serves in the community. He is a member of the NAACP, Firelands Health (board member), Sandusky Area Ministerial Association (former president), Sandusky Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (former president), Union Missionary Baptist District Association (1st vice moderator), and United Missionary Baptist State Convention of Ohio (president)
Pastor Johnson’s aim is to share the love of God with whomever he comes in contact with. He loves God and people. He has resolved to exalt the Savior, equip the saints, evangelize the sinner, and expand the Kingdom—to the glory of God!
